NO 1 Chinese Restaurant - Lowell
About This Spot
Walking into NO 1 Chinese Restaurant in Lowell feels like stepping into a familiar neighborhood sanctuary where the hum of everyday life slows just enough to enjoy a comforting meal. The space is straightforward and unpretentious, a little bustling with the quiet shuffle of casual diners and the steady rhythm of takeout orders filling the room. There’s a lived-in warmth to the place—one where the focus is on good food made with care and the gentle exchanges between staff and guests that turn routine visits into a ritual.
The pace here is friendly and efficient, never rushed but always attentive, fitting perfectly with the steady pulse of a community spot where regulars are greeted by name and newcomers are welcomed with a genuine smile. Amid simple furnishings and practical surroundings, you can sense the daily dance behind the scenes: dishes prepared with familiar flavors, handed over quickly, yet with the quiet pride of those deeply rooted in their craft.
At the heart of the experience is the food—a reliable kind of comfort that keeps people coming back. Plates burst with the bright tang of sweet and sour sauces clinging to shrimp or tender pork, while hearty bowls of chow mai fun and lo mein offer a satisfying, homey chew that feels like a pause from the ordinary. This is the kind of kitchen where each dish carries a signature balance — subtle with spices, generous with fresh ingredients, and thoughtfully prepared for both takeout and the shared warmth of a meal eaten in.
More than just a place to eat, NO 1 invites you into a local tradition of approachable flavors and human moments, where the quick hellos at the counter and the familiar hum of conversation add an unexpected layer of comfort to every visit. It’s not about the spectacle, but about the steady, uncomplicated joy found in the dishes and the people who bring them to your table—whether you’re stopping in for a quick bite or lingering a little longer to savor the neighborhood vibe.

This is my favorite local take out. Fast and affordable. So many great dishes on the menu. I do wish that they had more rare items, like a secret menu with more authentic dishes.

There is nothing wrong with this place. To people saying it's cluttered with boxes.. ya what chinese restaurant isn't? They're not rude, they gave eye contact and a smile. Stop being sensitive. Also the food is consistent. I mainly get beef or chicken broccoli i used to come here like 8 years ago and liked it just as much as I do to date.
